Abstract:
Malaysia is amongst the largest exporters of high quality tropical timber to the world market. Exports of the natural resources and related product as well as manufactured goods have contributed to the Malaysian economy development. Wood-based industry in Malaysia is divided into two main sectors which are the solid wood industry and bio-composite industry. Wooden furniture is the largest sub sector of the timber trade following plywood, sawn timber, particle board, medium density fiberboard (MDF), veneered panels products (LVL) and builders’ carpentry and joinery (BCJ). The Malaysian furniture industry is a highly export-oriented with over 90% of its production. Furniture production in Malaysia ranges from traditional to contemporary and it includes a custom designed by oversea buyers under international brand names.
