Abstract: Wood has been the main material for the Malaysian’s history from the simple furniture to royal furniture. Together with woods, other sources such as bamboo were used. The furniture maker’s styles with influences from culture, races and religions create a significant difference in style, design and layout. Culture in Malaysia draws on the varied cultures of the different people of Malaysia. The first people to live in the area were indigenous tribes that still remain; they were followed by the Malays, who moved there from mainland Asia in ancient times. Malaysian furniture combines many styles from Islamic, Indian and Chinese styles to those brought by European colonists. Furniture design in the north part is similar to those in Thailand, while in south part are similar to those in Java. However, has gradually begun to change the modern material and process of making the furniture, modern furniture has been introduced into the home, the school and the business furniture and a more western approach has been adopted.
