Abstract
Benin arranges an agro-ecological diversity, established(constituted) in the North by woody savannas, in the Center by classified forests, in the South by décidues forests and semi-décidues, palm groves, coconut palms and also forest islands relics in domains classified.
According to the appraisal report of the world forest resources on 2010, case of Benin and in spite of the forest legislation, " the forest natural landscape degrades gradually and we consider that approximately 70.000 ha of forests are cleared every year between 1990 and 2000 because of the attacks of the agriculture, the breeding, the uncontrolled forestry development and the fires of bush " and also anthropological actions, however, the surfaces of 18 360 ha 2 940 sacred forests remained unchanged thanks to the functions which they play to the community, worth knowing : the ecological, religious, sociocultural functions (offices).
The present communication has for objective to present the state of the forests of Benin, the typology of the sacred forests, the arguments which justify the contribution of the culture to the preservation of the biodiversity of its forests.
