报告摘要:
Divination, the previous cultural form of religion, which prevailed in the whole Chinese Bronze age, had great impacts on social life. There were various forms of divination in ancient China, and interpretation by astrology, dreams, turtle shell and milfoil were the general forms. However, there was another form of divination barely known, that is divination by wood, or instance, wooden chopsticks, signature, wheel basket or branches. Wood was taken as a medium of obtaining omens, and its growth pattern was referred to life status and fortune. This form of divination has been defined as divination by wood, which is more significant to the original culture, comparing to other forms. The rich belief of wood reflects religious-philosophical notions.
