演讲题目：Current Status of Wooden Handicraft Industry of India with Special Reference to Western U.P. State

摘要：Abstract: Handicraft is an invaluable and integral part of nation’s heritage. Handicraft industry of Saharanpur is an age-old business. The industry is playing a key role in Indian export of wood based products. It is providing employment to large number of peoples. It is a one of the key export segment of Indian trade with significant contribution coming from Western Uttar Pradesh (Saharanpur, Mirzapur, Bijnor and Nagina). However, handicraft sector of Uttar Pradesh is facing several problems such as unorganized marketing and inadequate marketing information; power interruptions and other infrastructural deficiencies; inadequate raw material at appropriate price, lack of mechanization or technology utilization for enhancing productivity. Presently, handicraft sector is on the verge of declining in giving economic returns, results in reduction in employment potential of industry. Handicraft industry needs to rejuvenate by providing appropriate intervention from government as well as non-government organization for skill up-gradation, marketing and exposure to latest technology.
