演讲题目:Etikoppaka - An Indian village perpetuating the joy of wood through the tradition of toy art
摘要:Etikoppaka, a remote village situated on the banks of river "Varaha", 120 km south of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh state, India is an ecstasy of scintillating wooden toys. The entire village takes up the onerous task of perpetuating the tradition of transforming amorphous wood into attractive miniature objects. The admirable art brings to form a range of lively, nice and cute dolls, toys, bangles, curios, kickshaws, knick-knacks, items of décor and playing aids through wonderful carving and beautiful polishing. Over the years, the craft has been really perfected reflecting the care and absorbing power of the artisans about their surroundings and nature. The artisans in fact create miniature world of life in wood that stuns the onlookers for long. Every household in the village resorts to toy making irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. The toys are in good demand all over the country, especially from "Lepakshi Emporia" and in tourist/ pilgrim centres. A portrayal of this deserving cottage industry is brought out in this article.
