演讲题目:Enjoyment of Japanese Traditional Wood Carving

摘要:-Forest country- Japan has a 1400 years woodcarving history which started Buddha statue carving. And we use many kinds of woods for carving. I am a second generation woodcarver and I am making various kinds of traditional woodcarving for 20 years. For example, decoration of wood carving in Japanese shrine and temple, festival float and portable shrine and Noh-mask. I would like to explain my works and culture background about Japanese woods, wood carving process and traditional unique tools.

HIDETA KITAZAWA (Mask Carver, Shinto Temple Carver) Born on February 4th, 1968. Hideta chose to follow his father's footsteps and become a second generation woodcarving artist. In 1991 after graduating from the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology with a major in Forest Production, he went on to begin intensive woodcarving studies with his father Ikkyou Kitazawa. Since that time, he has received a number of awards including the Outstanding Youth Artesian Award for Tokyo 1997 and the Yokohama Noh Drama Hall Director's Prize in 2003. He has exhibited his works both nationally and internationally and his carvings of Shinto floats and o-mikoshi are in current use throughout Japan's Kanto area. His masks are also used extensively by a number of noh and kyogen professionals.
